How to schedule LinkedIn posts, and where to find them
LinkedIn has scheduling built in. Here are the exact steps from LinkedIn Help, where your scheduled posts hide, what cannot be scheduled, and when a tool is worth it.
Updated
Schedule a post on desktop
- Click Start a post and write your post.
- Click the clock icon in the post box.
- Pick a date and time. You can choose from 30 minute steps or type an exact time.
- Click Next, then Schedule.
Schedule a post on mobile
- Tap Post and write your post.
- Tap the clock icon at the top right.
- Pick a date and time.
- Tap Next, then Schedule.
LinkedIn Help says the scheduled time is based on your device's time zone. If you travel, check the time before you schedule.
How to see your scheduled posts
This trips up a lot of people, because scheduled posts do not show on your profile until they go live. To find them:
- Click Start a post to open the post box.
- Click the clock icon.
- Click View all scheduled posts.
From that list you can open the More menu on any post to Modify schedule or Edit post, or click the delete icon to remove it.
What you can and cannot schedule
| Your profile | A LinkedIn Page | |
|---|---|---|
| Earliest | 10 minutes from now | 1 hour from now |
| Latest | 3 months ahead | 3 months ahead |
| Who can schedule | You | Super admins and content admins |
| Cannot schedule | Events, jobs, services | Events, multiple photos, reshares, polls, jobs, service posts |
If your post includes something that cannot be scheduled, LinkedIn shows an error. You then remove that item or post right away.
When to schedule, and for when
Scheduling is most useful when your readers are in another time zone, or when you write in batches. Pick the slot from data, then adjust with your own results. Our guide to the best time to post on LinkedIn shows what Buffer and Sprout Social found, with a converter for your time zone.
One habit makes scheduled posts do better: be around when they go live. Comments in the first hour are a chance to start a real conversation, and a post you scheduled for 4 a.m. your time will not get your replies until you wake up.
Common problems
| Problem | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| I can't find my scheduled post | Scheduled posts do not show on your profile until they go live | Post box, clock icon, View all scheduled posts |
| The post went out at the wrong hour | LinkedIn uses your device's time zone setting | Check your device time zone, then Modify schedule |
| LinkedIn shows an error when I schedule | The post includes an event, job or service | Remove it, or post now |
| I can't pick a time in the next few minutes | The earliest is 10 minutes ahead, or 1 hour for Pages | Pick a later time or post now |
| I want to schedule more than 3 months out | 3 months is the limit | Save a draft and schedule it later |
Scheduling the same idea on X
If you post on X too, X Help says X Pro can schedule posts and shows them in a Scheduled column. X Help also says longer posts, a Premium feature, cannot be scheduled on the web yet. For the best hour on X, see the best time to post on X.
When a scheduling tool is worth it
LinkedIn's own scheduler is fine for one post at a time on one network. A tool helps when you want a queue, a calendar view, or the same idea on LinkedIn and X.
How do third party tools do it? LinkedIn's Posts API lets an app post for a member who gives it the w_member_social permission. The API only accepts posts to publish now, so tools keep your post and send it at the time you picked. That is why a good tool asks you to connect LinkedIn through LinkedIn's own sign in page, and never asks for your password.
- Check it uses the official API. LinkedIn's User Agreement bans bots and other unauthorized automated methods.
- Check you approve each post. Nothing should go out in your name that you have not read.
- Check it handles your formats. Text, images, documents and polls are all supported by LinkedIn's API for normal posts.
