Where LinkedIn folds a post
LinkedIn shows the first few lines of a post and hides the rest behind see more. On desktop that is roughly three lines, about 210 characters. On a phone it is less, roughly 140 characters, because lines are shorter.
LinkedIn does not publish an exact number, and the real cut depends on the screen, the font and your line breaks. A blank line uses up a whole line. This preview estimates the fold by wrapping your text at a typical line width, so treat it as a guide and keep your key point well inside it.
Questions
How many characters show before see more?
Roughly 210 on desktop and roughly 140 on a phone, or three lines, whichever comes first. LinkedIn has not published an exact figure and it changes with screen size.
Do line breaks change the fold?
Yes. Every line break starts a new line, and a blank line counts as one. Three short lines with gaps between them can fold sooner than one long sentence.
Is this exactly what LinkedIn will show?
It is a close estimate, not a screenshot. Fonts and screen widths vary, so leave a little room rather than writing right up to the fold.
Is my post stored anywhere?
No. The preview runs in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
