Twitter thread maker

Paste a long note, a blog paragraph or a draft. It comes back as a numbered thread, each tweet under 280 characters, ready to copy one by one.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type leaves this page. No signup.

2 parts
The thread
  1. Most people write threads backwards. They start with context, then build up to the point, and lose readers in the first tweet. Start with the point instead. Say the one thing you want people to remember, in plain words. 1/2

    223 / 280
  2. Then use each following tweet to back it up with one reason, one example or one number. Keep every tweet whole. If someone only sees tweet three, it should still make sense on its own. Close with what you want the reader to do next, and link it only once, at the end. 2/2

    271 / 280

How the thread maker splits text

  1. Paste your text. Paragraphs and line breaks are fine.
  2. The text is split at sentence ends and packed into tweets, leaving room for a 1/5 style number on each.
  3. Each tweet is counted the way X counts it, so links count as 23 and emoji as 2. Anything over 280 is flagged.
  4. Copy each tweet in order and post it as a reply to the one before.

What makes a thread easy to read

One idea per tweet. Splitting at sentence ends keeps each tweet whole, so a reader who only sees one still gets a complete thought.

Numbering tells readers how long the thread is before they commit. The first tweet does the work a headline does, so make it the strongest line.

Questions

How long can each tweet be?

280 characters for a standard account. The thread maker keeps each part under that, counting links as 23 and emoji as 2 like X does.

Can I turn off the numbers?

Yes, switch numbering off and the parts are packed without the 1/5 marker.

Does it post the thread for me?

No. This page prepares the text. Copy each tweet into X in order.

Is there a version for LinkedIn posts?

Yes. The LinkedIn post to X thread tool also drops hashtags and is tuned for LinkedIn's short line style.
