Styled letters are look alike Unicode characters. Screen readers may read them letter by letter or skip them, and search may not match them. Style a few words, not the whole post.

73 / 280Plain, this text counts 41. Styled, it counts 73, because X counts each styled letter as 2.
How to make bold text on X
- Type your tweet. Select a few words to style only those, or leave nothing selected to style it all.
- Pick a font. The X preview updates and the counter shows the new length.
- Press Copy and paste into X.
What tweet fonts cost you
X counts each styled letter as 2 characters, because those letters sit outside the ranges X counts as 1. A fully bold tweet fits about 140 letters, not 280.
Styled words also stop matching search. Someone searching X for a word will not find your bold version of it, and screen readers often read styled letters one by one or skip them.
Use a font for one or two words that carry the point, and keep names, hashtags and keywords plain.

Questions
Does X have a bold button?
Not in the standard post box. Bold on X is made of Unicode look alike letters that you copy and paste.
Why is my bold tweet over the limit?
X counts each styled letter as 2. A tweet that fits in plain text can run over 280 once it is styled.
Can screen readers read styled text?
Often not well. Many screen readers read each styled letter by its full name, or skip it. Keep styled text to a few words, never style a whole post, and never put key information only in styled text.
Does styled text show up in search?
Usually not as the plain word. Search on LinkedIn and X looks for the letters you typed, and a styled word is made of different characters, so a bold keyword can stop matching.
