How the counter works

  1. Paste your post, headline or About text.
  2. The counter shows characters used and left for each limit, plus words and lines.
  3. It also marks roughly where see more folds a post on desktop and on a phone.

LinkedIn's limits, and where they come from

Posts: 3,000 characters. This is stated on LinkedIn Help. Past it, LinkedIn suggests writing an article instead.

Headline: 220 characters, and About: 2,600 characters. These are the limits LinkedIn's profile editor enforces at the time of writing. LinkedIn Help does not publish them, so check the counter in the editor if you are close.

The counter counts each letter, space, emoji and line break as one character. Some tools count an emoji or a styled letter as two, so leave a little room near a limit.

Questions

What is the LinkedIn post character limit?

3,000 characters, according to LinkedIn Help. That includes spaces, line breaks and emoji.

Do spaces and line breaks count?

Yes. Every space and every line break counts as a character.

How long should a LinkedIn post be?

Long enough to make one point well. The limit is 3,000 characters, but what decides whether people read it is the first line above see more.

Does this count comments too?

The counter works on any text, but LinkedIn sets comment limits separately and does not publish all of them, so this page only states the ones we can source.
